From Carmen Florida, small village on right bank of Rio Beni, 5km upriver from Rurrenabaque, Beni Department, Ballvian Province in Brazil. Local name in Tacana dialect. Shrub to 1.5m tall. Fruits green, then red, 5cm long, somewhat ribbed, irregularly shaped, acuminate near stigma scar. Seeds white.

This variety has many names: Balloon, Pimenta Cambuci, Campane, Peri Peri, Ubatuba Cambuci, Aji Flor, Orchid, Christmas Bell and Bishops Crown to name a few!! This very unusual pod shaped variety is believed to have been transfered from South America to Europe by the Portuguese in the 18th century and is actually part of the species Capsicum baccatum var. pendulum. The plants are quite large growing 3 to 4 ft tall and produce 30 to 50 extremely weird 3 or 4 flat winged, wrinkled almost flying saucer like 1 ½" wide pods. The flesh of each pod is thin athough crisp to taste and they mature from green to red approximately 90-100 days after seedlings have emerged. The body of the pods have some detectable heat, but the wings are sweet and mild.

Originally from Recife in the Pernambuco area of Brazil, but now found throughout north and northeast Brazil. This very attractive white flowering 2ft tall bushy plant produces good yields of very small 'Tepin like' round chiles witha slight dimple on one side. They are approximately ½ inch round and mature from light green, to yellow, to orange and then to red around 90 days after transplanting. Despite there searing heat, these chiles have a wonderful smokey fruity flavour. Fantastic for bringing a bland curry to life! . Both yellow and red versions of this varieties are available.

This stunning ornamental white flowering plant is very similar to the Bolivian Rainbow, although the plant is a little more compact and the peppers are smaller and slightly more elongated. These very impressive plant produces hundreds of 1in long by ½ in wide pods which grow erect on the plant. The mature through various shades of purple to yellows, oranges and finally to bright red when ripe. The full rainbow of colours are present at the same time. Although the fruits are highly ornamental, they are also very pungent so care should be taken when fruits are handled.
