2007 in numbers.

2007 was a fantastic year for thechileman.org. We would like to thank you all for your support and hope you that you will enjoy what we plan to bring you here in 2008. Just to round up the year we thought we'd share a few numbers with you...

The site received a total of 131,082 visits from 174 different countries and territories. Most of our visitors came from the United States of America (46,288 visits) but the site has proved to be of interest to even the most challenging of pepper growing environments with the deserts of Oman (19 visits) and ice encrusted Greenland (2 visits). The most popular day of the year was May 1st with 1,199 visits. Non-geographically, a total of 21.33% of visits were classed as Direct Traffic, 39.61% of visits were referred from another website and 39.04% of visits found the site via a search engine. Which leaves 0.02% classed as a slightly mysterious "Other".

In total 657,141 pages were viewed during 2007. This includes 94,371 views of the homepage. Our series of guides have also proved very popular. In total they have been viewed 85,228 times with the most popular being the beginners guide which was viewed a total of 12,021 times. The section of the website that has been most popular of all is the section that continues to receive most of our attention as we continue to update and improve it: the database. During 2007 the database served up a total of 290,290 results. Of the 3,707 varieties we have listed, the most popular in 2007 was the 7 Pod which was viewed a total of 12,377 times. Other varieties receiving more than ten thousand views were habanero chocolate (11,295), habanero caribbean red (11,130) and naga morich (10,148) The most popular single search however was a name search for "habanero". This was made a total of 3,150 times.

We launched our custom growing lists in 2007. This feature means you can create a cut-down version of the database showing only the varieties that you are growing. It has proved popular and our world map shows 161 growers who are currently cultivating anywhere from 1 to 93 different varieties. Which just goes to show, unless you are fiedlermeister, there is always someone more obsessed with growing peppers than you!

And just to complete our round up of statistics for the year, our average visitor uses a PC computer running Windows, the Internet Explorer browser and a 1024x768 pixel resolution screen, and presumably has a casual interest in peppers too.
