PIMENTA DE NEYDE

Species: Capsicum sp. Origin: Brazil Heat: Hot

This variety is apparently a chinense-annuum cross with purple pods! In Brazil it is called Neyde (after the women who discovered it).Even though the fruits don't resemble chinenses very much, the taste is said to be very chinense-like and the pods are supposed to be very hot. Flowers are white with purple stains and the pods (which measure 2cm to 5cm) remain purple even at maturty. The variety is definately one for the avid pepper collector.

PIMENTO DE PADRON

Species: Annuum Origin: Spain Heat: Sweet

Pimientos de Padrón are small green peppers named after a town in Galicia Spain. They are usually fried in salt and served as a tapa. At their best, eating them is rather like playing Russian Roulette; although they are all delicious, about one in five will blow a hole in the top of your skull! Sometimes almost all of them are highly explosive; occasionally, an entire batch is sweet.
