AJI LEMON DROP (PI 315024)

This terrifically hot, citrus-flavored pepper is a popular seasoning pepper in Peru where it is known as 'Kellu Uchu'. It is also known in the western world as 'Hot lemon' or 'Lemon Drop'. The bright yellow, crinkled, cone-shaped fruits are about 2-1/2" long and 1/2" wide and mature from green to yellow approximately 100 days after transplanting (Long season) have less seeds than the average pepper, containing than 15 seeds on average. They plant is vine like typically reaching a height of about 3 ft. Like other baccatum species this pepper was practically unknown in the West until the early 1990s, but are now gaining wide scale popularity.

ANCHO SAN LUIS

This heart shaped pepper is what Mexicans use to make mole and chile rellanos, an intergral part of Mexican Cusine .The peppers are known as 'Ancho' when dried and 'Poblano' when fresh.This medium sized plant produces 5 to 7 inches long by 2.5 to 3 inches wide mildly pungent peppers which mature from dark green to mahoghany red. Excellent in Salsas or for roasting

An attractive dwarf plant that produces excellent yields of small 1-2 inch medium/hot bullet shaped fruits. Indeed one plant can produce well over 100 pods in the right growing conditions, fruiting all summer long. One of the most common varieties available from UK garden centres.

AURORA

Species: Annuum Origin: Unknown Heat: very hot

A colourful ornamental dwarf type with striking purple and green foilage. These small 10-12" plants make an excellent container plant and produce a profussion of 1 1/2in upright fruits which ripen at different times so the little bushes are covered with all different colors from yellow to orange to red to pepper. The peppers can be eaten although not recommended.

A Cayenne Type. Plant produces good yields of 5 ¼" long by ¼" wide long peppers which mature from lime green to deep crimson in approximately 90 days

BHUT JOLOKIA (BIH JOLOKIA)

This landrace chile originates from the northeast of India, particularly Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. It belongs to Capsicum chinense family and is known by many names in the different Indian provinces. The most common names include Bhut jolokia, Bih jolokia, Nagahari, Raja Mircha, Raja chilli or Borbih jolokia. For example Bih jolokia translates to 'poison chilli' in Assamese. Bhut Jolokia translates to 'Ghost chilli' probably due to its ghostly bite. Raja Mircha means 'King of Chillies'. Reports from Assam growers indicate the typical height of Bih Jolokia to be in the range of 45 to120 cm. Like other varieties of the Chinense species, the leaf surface has the characteristic crinkle look and the flowers are pendant, with creamy white corollas, often with a touch of light green. Fruits are 5 to 8.5 cm in length, 2.5 to 3 cm in diameter (at shoulder), with an undulating surface. However it doenst matter what its called, under the right growing conditions these chiles are blisteringly hot with recent tests indicating a heat level of 1,041,427 Scoville Heat Units. Only its closely related Bangladeshi cousin - the fearsome Naga Morich, can lay claim to such outrageous heat levels.

BLACK PEARL

This is a very nice compact, bushy ornamental variety developed by arboretum Floral and Nursery Plants Research Unit scientists Rob Griesbach and John Stommel of the Agricultural Research Service’s Vegetable Laboratory. The plant grows about 14 to 18 inches tall and 12 to 16 inches wide and sets masses of 3/4-inch small rond 'pearl shaped' pods which ripens from black to a rich, deep red. An All-America Selections® (AAS) Flower Award winner for 2006.

BOMBILLA AMARILLA

Bombilla Amarilla is a rare heirloom variety from the south of Spain. The pods are round and small (cherry tomato size) and mature to a bright yellow. They're so bright in the summer sun that they appear to look like light bulbs which is what they're named after (bombilla). They're used in southern spanish cusine and have a strong following particularly from the South American communities of Madrid and Barcelona.

BROOME CHILE

A rare variety from the northern coast of Western Australia. This bushy plant produces good yields of 2.75 inch long by 1.5 inch wide, almost square shaped pods that mature from green to red, but do so in splotches.

BULGARIAN CARROT (SHIPKAS)

Species: Annuum Origin: Bulgaria Heat: Medium

Also known as 'Shipkas' this charming heirloom was supposedly smuggled out through the iron curtain 20 years ago. This attractive white flowering 2ft plant produces good yields of 3 to 3.5 inches long by 0.625 to 0.75 inches wide glossing orange coloured peppers resembling carrots. The peppers are hot and mature from green to yellow and then to orange approximately 65-70 days after transplanting. The peppers are crunchy and are used to make pickles, salsa, jellies and marinades.
